Reports indicate that Samsung is declining to provide displays for the Apple iPhone SE 4 due to the perceived low pricing

Apple seems to be benefiting from its decision to equip the fourth-generation iPhone SE with a traditional 60 Hz LTPS AMOLED display, as per recent reports. The cost for this display is significantly lower for Apple compared to the screen used in its flagship model, with Apple reportedly paying less than a quarter of the price. However, Samsung Display is reportedly unwilling to supply the display at this reduced price point.

  • Leaked CAD images suggest that the fourth generation Apple iPhone SE will closely resemble the design of the iPhone 14, with the exception of a notably smaller camera module due to the inclusion of only a single rear camera. Reports indicate that the device will feature a display nearly identical to that of the iPhone 14, boasting a 6.1-inch LTPS OLED panel with a resolution of 2532 x 1170 and a refresh rate of 60 Hz.

  • ITHome's latest report suggests that Apple is gearing up for a 2025 launch, aiming to manufacture up to 15 million units initially. Such a substantial production scale hints at the potential for significant profits for suppliers. However, negotiations hit a snag as Samsung Display reportedly pulled out after Apple declined their $30 per panel offer. Apple is adamant about sticking to a $25 per display budget, prompting a shift towards Chinese manufacturers like BOE for production.
  • To provide context, the display of the iPhone 15 Pro Max, which was also furnished by Samsung Display, incurred a cost of $115 for Apple at its launch. Display units, alongside processors and cameras, typically rank among the priciest components in smartphones. Hence, it's unsurprising that Apple is seeking cost-saving measures, particularly in these segments, for its more budget-friendly iPhone offering. The upcoming fourth-generation iPhone SE is poised to amalgamate the housing and Face ID features of the iPhone 14 while incorporating a single 48 MP rear camera and a more contemporary processor.
